What makes an organization’s safety program excellent? While trailing indicators such as OSHA Injury/Illness Incidence Rates below the industry average would be a good place to start, they may not present the full picture of a company’s safety program.
The criteria we will be using to determine the winners of our Excellence in Safety Awards for the 2024 17th Biennial Safety Intelligence Institute Pacific Rim Safety and Health Conference include a mixture of traditional trailing indicators and leading indicators such as employee participation, executive leadership, training programs and safety committee meetings, site safety audits. We will also be looking for proactive safety planning practices such as Job Hazard Analyses and Failure Modes and Effects Analyses.
